View Full Version : customisation of PDF invoices
Hi all,
I'm looking at getting this package but needed to know - is there any way of customising the PDF invoices any further? We would really like to add a graphic or two - then this system would be perfect for us.
Also - I am right in thinking these PDF's are sent to the clients with the billing run?
Thanks for your help,
Kino

The pdf invoices are not sent with the invoice emails at the moment. They are generated on the fly and don't reside anywhere. This is something we might consider doing in the future though as it would be a nice addition.
You can add your logo in your pdf, but that is the only thing at the moment.

I like this feature, but it seems to look at the picture as a 72 dpi file. I exported my jpg as a 300 dpi file and it was HUGE! (filled up the whole screen - no room for the invoice)
When I reduced the size of course it looks very bad when printed.

Are you sure you were at 100% and not 140% or larger?

Not quite sure what you mean. My JPEG was set at 300 DPI and set for 3.5 inches. It covered the entire page. When I create graphics for print work I create graphics for print... not based on pixels but rather on inches and dpi. I was in the graphics and printing industry before web and it is a lot different. What do you mean by "140%"?

I mean your PDF not the image. The logo might appear larger if your PDF window defaults to 200% rather than 100%. The reason I say that is that we do not resize the logo

Yes that's true... but I was talking about the printed PDF. It will only take a 72 dpi image... which makes it look really bad when printed. Looks so so on the screen... since a screen can only display 72 dpi anyway.

Ah, I see. Can you send me an example of the logo to alberto@clientexec.com so I can test with it.
Thanks

Shoudn't the Logo be saved as a BMP as to provide the BEST resolution and best File size compermise for printing the invoice. I have played around with my logo and a JPG just isnt made to be printed out.
Is there any fix for this in the future?

Also I would like to recommend a really COOL utility for measuring inch's and pixel's and such on your monitor. And best of all its FREE :p
Its called "Cool Ruler" and can be downloaded here:
www.fabsoft.com/products/ruler/ruler.html (http://www.fabsoft.com/products/ruler/ruler.html)
Here is what it looks like (note you can change what it measures, in the graphic below it is set up for inches)

Hmmm -- it looks like invoice logos are still being printed out at 72dpi regardless of the resolution of the image or the printer. (I.e., my 300 dpi logo prints to multiple pages unless I shrink it to approx 25%, and then it looks pretty mushy when enlarged back to about 4x for printing.)
Almost any .jpg will look pretty bad when rendered at 72dpi and then printed.
Maybe for a future version...

The file dspPDFInvoice.php (in the root folder) is no longer encrypted, you can edit the invoice layout there.

That's because you should edit the file with a simple text editor. DW doesn't know how to handle the non html part of this file.
