2012 Analyst Program
Front Office
London
Having lived abroad for 12 years, I was really attracted to an international career and the global scope of the financial markets made it the best fit. Moreover, as the industry is currently facing a period of significant changes with the surge in regulation in response to the 2007-08 crises, I thought it was an interesting time to join.
During my long-term internship at a Swiss Investment Bank, I could hear the traders complimenting Newedge's brokers for their professionalism and efficiency. It caught my interest so I then decided to learn more about Newedge and realized it was a market leader in the listed derivatives space and had offices across the world. Also, keeping the financial crisis and the changing regulatory framework in mind, I am convinced that Brokerage firms will benefit from their agency model and attract new business.
The main thing that appealed to me about the Analyst Programme was the possibility to rotate through the three business lines. I think it is really important to gain a global understanding of the functioning of a firm when joining and I really feel like there is no better way to achieve this than exposure across the different business areas. Secondly, Newedge has also put a Mentor Programme in place to support each one of us in developing the skills required to be successful in the financial industry. I genuinely believe it is a good way to build a pipeline of talent in a firm.
The Analyst Programme has been a real success so far. During the initial training, we had the opportunity to meet all of the graduates based in other offices as well as many member of the firm, and we started building strong relationships from the first day. Before joining Newedge, I knew very little about Prime Brokerage and after a short time in my first rotation with Prime Clearing Services, I have considerably increased my knowledge on the business and have already started to contribute to the team. The managers are very knowledgeable and try to involve you as much as they can, so you get a good overview of all the different aspects of the business. If anything, Newedge's top quality is its employees and their team spirit; it is very pleasant to work in a friendly environment where everyone is open-minded and ready to help or give advice.

Having had previous experience on the buy side of the industry I wanted to gain further exposure on the sell side at a larger player in the capital markets.
I found that the key difference with Newedge compared to other banks and brokers was the people, both before joining and throughout the programme I found everyone very friendly and keen to help a new starter to settle within the company.
The Analyst Programme appealed to me as it seemed very well managed with a clear layout in terms of the different rotations, providing a broader experience yet still retaining enough flexibility to suit the different development needs of the graduates.
The knowledge gained has really helped my understanding of the financial landscape, and, in addition, the social side of the company has been great in terms of networking and professional development as well as a variety of activities on offer.

I graduated with a degree in Economics with Finance and a Masters in Finance. I really enjoyed both, so joining the financial industry was a natural progression. There are so many contrasting roles out there, but I was looking for something highly analytical in a deadline-driven environment - I haven’t been disappointed.
As competitive as the current market has been, I was still quite selective about the type of firm I wanted to join. Newedge appealed to me because it is a relatively young firm that still ranks among the top-tier banks in its industry. This means there are opportunities for graduates to add value in the short-term, as well as opportunities for career growth in the long-term.
Compared with many other graduate programmes the Newedge class was quite small. I was able to get a lot of one-on-one time with many experienced and knowledgeable people - something I could not expect on a larger programme. There is a strong camaraderie amongst the graduates which is invaluable on both a personal and professional level.
Our visit to the Paris office in January was definitely the highlight of the programme. Before then I had been on countless calls with colleagues all over the world, but seeing another office really puts the size of Newedge’s operations into perspective.

Ever since my first year in college, my focus was set on working towards a career in financial services. Though I did begin my studies as a Management major with a concentration in Finance, I realized early on that I had a growing interest in Information Technology as well and shifted my studies to include both areas. Having both backgrounds and being drawn to challenging, fast-paced environments, I knew I would be able to find many opportunities that would progress me to become successful in this industry.
While applying to numerous positions and researching different companies, Newedge stood out to me because of its highly recognized position in the field of brokerage and its vast global presence across 16 different countries. The values and culture that this company encompasses were exactly what I was looking for in an organization.
Since I was unable to decide which specialized area of IT I wanted to build my career in, this analyst program structured with distinct rotations of different functions became the ideal opportunity for me. I was able to work with different teams across the IT department while receiving mentorship by numerous global heads.
My biggest regret during college was not studying or working abroad, thus making the three week training period in London the highlight of the program for me. I met some of the most intelligent and hardworking people from different parts of the US and UK, which made my experience there that much more memorable.
